Belgrade, 8 February 2010 – The IPv4 protocol enabled the allocation of more than four billion IP addresses, which seemed to be more than enough at the moment it occurred.
ICANN has informed the public that approximately 10 percent of IP (about 400 million) addresses are still available, meaning they are still not allocated. These addresses are expected to be allocated in the following two years. Since all allocated addresses are still not used, the actual lack of IPv4 addresses will not be noticed in the near future. Because there are not many IPV4 addresses left, it is clear that the migration to the IPv6 addressing system needs to be planned. This system will enable the registration of 340282366920938463463374607431768211456 addresses compared to 4294967296 addresses within the IPv4 protocol.

The Conference of the Universities of Serbia immeditately required that the procedure of migrating from the existing .ac.yu to the new .ac.rs domain should be prepared and carried out for all legal entities (31 faculties and institutes), without any limitations. Until the end of the year, the Accademic Network of Serbia must define rules and submit them to Konus for ratification.Competition for Director of RNIDS Now Open

After that period, unrenewed .yu domains will stop functioning on the Internet.
That, however, is not all: the additional term for renewing .yu domains will begin on 3 March 2009 and end on 30 April 2009. We believe that such a growth of registered domains means a continuous growth of serious content on the Internet, i.e. the more interesting content of the local Internet for all its users, as well as a growth in the number of Internet users and online content, which will bring us closer to the rest of the world. RNIDS expects this tempo to continue and the 45.000th .rs domain to be registered soon.Farewell to .yu domain campaign in September, October and further

Belgrade, 15 September 2008 - The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names would like to inform the public that the 35.000th domain (biomedica.rs) was registered in Belgrade, during the so-called land rush, i.e. when it became possible to unrestrictedly buy domain names. The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names would like to inform the Internet users that the process of migrating from the .yu domain to the new national .rs domain is entering its final phase. Until 10 September 2008, present .yu domain owners have the priority when registering the same .rs domain names which were reserved for them. The Priority right expires on 10 September 2008 at noon. All unused reservations of .rs domains will become available to the general public on 15 September 2008 at noon. In reality that means that if a company which has a registered www.companyname.co.yu domain does not use its Priority right to register www.companyname.co.rs until 10 September 2008, then anyone can register www.companyname.co.rs as of 15 September 2008. In this way, the company risks that someone else freely registers this domain and creates a site with the address www.companyname.co.rs, or uses е-mail addresses ending in @companyname.co.rs. We would also like to inform the general public that it would be possible to renew the present .yu domain registrations from 3 November 2008 to 2 March 2009. After this term, the .yu domains which have not been renewed will be deactivated and will stop functioning on the Internet. In practice that means that if a company does not use the possibility to renew the registration of its www.companyname.co.yu domain until 2 March 2009, its Website and electronic mail will stop functioning on the Internet, as of that day. The additional term for renewing the .yu domain registrations starts on 3 March 2009 and ends on 30 April 2009. If the .yu domain is renewed within the additional term, it will be reactivated on the Internet. The remaining .yu domains, which are not renewed within the specified time period, will be permanently deleted from the register on 4 May 2009. Maintaining the .yu domain register and propagating information on .yu domains on the Internet will cease on 30 September 2009, regardless of the renewal date. On the very day, all .yu domains will stop functioning on the Internet!
For all details regarding the registration of Internet domains, please contact any .rs domain registrar across Serbia. The list of all registrars can be found at www.rnids.rs.48 HOURS LEFT Monday, 8 September 2008 - RNIDS would like to inform the public that only 48 hours are left until the completion of the re-registration of .yu domains with the Priority Right. According to estimates, approximately 5,000 companies in Serbia have not used that right yet. There is a threat that these companies lose their online identity.
The priority registration of .rs domains expires on Wednesday at noon, when the Priority Right for registering .rs and .co.rs. domains will be gone, whereas effective 15 September of the current year, all domain names from the .YU register not registered in the new .RS registrer, will be available for registration.
Until 9:00 am of this very day, a total of 31,980 domains have been registered, 17,048 of which have been re-registered. In all, there were approximately 40,000 .yu domains. [View Graphs]Invitation for press conference in Belgrade On Wednesday, 3 September 2008, the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names organises a press conference in Media Center in Belgrade, 9 Milentija Popovića St (Sava Centre), at 11 am, named Farewell to .yu domain - 7 more days, due to the .yu domain re-registration process and the ending of the transition period. Belgrade, 20 June 2008 - A total of 23,668 domains have been registered to date, 20 June 2008, i.e. 103 days from the beginning of .rs domain registrations. The trend of, primarily, .rs domain registrations is expected to continue. Being the national and the shortest domain, .rs is obviously the most interesting domain to the Internet community. RNIDS also hopes to intensify the registration of .gov.rs domains after negotiations with the Public Administration. This will mark the end of the association of Serbia with the .yu domain, which will also have advantages for us as users of state services. RNIDS would also like to invite registrants of .yu domains to accelerate the process of migrating to the .rs domain so that the Transition Commission, registrars and RNIDS can finalise the transition from .yu to .rs without any problems to those who use the Internet as a business tool. We also made a promise at the conference that until 1 August 2008 the public would be informed about the manners of using .yu domains after 10 September 2008. RNIDS also states that the 25,000th registered domain will get a free annual registration. Media will be timely informed about the domain registered as the 25,000th one. With this symbolic action, RNIDS wishes to mark a fast and secure growth of the local Internet. The next domain which will receive the same treatment will be the 50,000th registered domain. Also, during summer RNIDS plans to prepare, together with its registrars, a thorough campaign plan for the Internet use promotion.Call for reporting disputable .yu domains
Belgrade, 9 June 2008 - The Transition Commission of RNIDS would like to invite Registrars and the Internet community to take a more active part in reporting disputable .yu domains. Timely detecting and solving problems connected with the .yu register will ensure that there will be no damaged parties on 10 September, when all unregistered .yu domains will become available for registration. Meetings of the Transition Commission are held at least twice a week. The aim of the Commission and RNIDS is to enable pre-registration of the largest possible number of disputable .yu domains before the final deadline.22,000 .rs domains registered
Belgrade, 4 June 2008 - Today at noon, 22,000th .rs domain was registered. RNIDS hopes that the registration process will continue at the same pace. Local companies and citizens have realisesd the fact that, in the modern world, neither legal entities nor physical persons exist without their Internet address.20,000 .rs domains registered
Belgrade, 22 May 2008 - A total of 20,134 .rs domains have been registered until 20 May 2008, at 01:00 pm, i.e. 72 days after the commencement of the registration process. This data shows that the Internet community is eager to begin using the new national domain as soon as possible. This trend is expected to continue. Statistics on the number of registered domains, updated on a daily basis, can be found at www.rnids.rs. The process of registering the new .rs domain and replacing the old national domain began on 10 March. In the period of six months from this date, owners of old .yu domains have the Priority Right to register the same domain names with the .rs prefix. Results of .rs domain registrations after a month
Belgrade, 11 April 2008 - On the first day of registration, 7,000 domains were registered and a total of 15,460 domains were registered during the first month of registration. More than half of these domains (7,600 in total) were registered in the .rs address space of the highest level. Physical persons, who got the possibility to register the national Intеrnеt domain, registered 20% of the total number of registered domains. 1,500 domains were registered in the new .in.rs address space, showing a great interest for the registration of these highly available domains. Somewhat less than 5 months are left for registrants of current .yu domains to use their right and register the same .rs domain name. After 10 September 2008, domains booked during the transition period will become available for registration to all interested parties. From the total number of registered domains, approximately 25% are domains registered during transition by registrants of existing .yu domains, whereas the rest are brand new Intеrnеt domains. There are approximately 40,000 old .yu domains, about half being active, which can be used at least until 30 September 2009. RNIDS has also established a Transition Commission, which started handling appeals for the registration of domains during transition in cases when the registrant of a .yu domain is not an active legal person any longer. The process of registering .rs domains is performed by registrars. There are 34 registrars at the moment.Report on the first day of .rs domain registrations

During the first five hours of registration, 850 citizens or almost 12% of citizens used the possibility of registering domains within the new address space .in.rs, dedicated to citizens. Ten days before the beginning of .rs domain registration, RNIDS will stop receiving requests for registering new .yu domains. All .yu domains, which have been registered until then, will continue to function normally at least until 30 September 2009. All domain names which have not been registered until now with .yu extension will be immediately available for registration with .rs extension. Clients will submit their registration requests through accredited registrars.
